FMB MBA Sustainability Award winner 2023 - DLE Construction Limited, Chris Pearman - Build

DLE Construction Limited took on a challenging brief to build this sustainable family home, whilst ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

The team created a modern, fully open plan living area designed to capture natural light, utilizing the south facing aspect of the plot. They also incorporated the latest green technologies, including a ground-source heat pump, solar panels, a heat-recovery system, underfloor heating, a rainwater harvesting system, triple-glazed Velfac windows and extensive insulation.

Their client was thrilled with their new home, stating ‘We set out with a vision of a highly energy efficient home for our family in a green belt location. From the moment we received planning, DLE was involved
and very helpful with getting the project started. The DLE team worked very well together and managed to foresee and accomplish things we worried would be impossible during the COVID lockdown. They created exactly what we wanted to a high standard and found creative solutions to what we wanted to achieve.’

The national judges praised this entry as 'an outstanding example of how builders can meet a very high spec brief for high quality environmental standards under extremely difficult conditions, right in the middle of COVID.' Describing the ‘comprehensive eco story’ that this project became, they praised the teamwork and focus employed to keep the build on-track, and recognised the high standards achieved in terms of energy efficiency and craftmanship. Reflecting on the array of energy efficiency measures implemented throughout the property, they cited the finished result as a ‘fine example for others to follow’.
